History of Development and Changes of Tongchuang 717 Haina Chuanglian Industrial Park:

1. Fahua Ancient Town has always been centered around Fahua Zen Temple, with Dongzhen to the east and Xizhen to the west. The market stretches for three miles, with the area around Zhongde Bridge being the most prosperous. The southern end of Zhongde Bridge is located on the current Yangzhai Road, spanning Fahuabang, while the northern end is on the current Zhongde Bridge Road. The main body of the bridge is southwest and northeast, and Weitian Temple is located on the northwest side of Zhongde Bridge. The Zhongde Bridge was built in the Ming Dynasty and is a stone slab bridge. Because repairing the bridge is a good deed that benefits the village, it is called “Zhongde Bridge”. In 1567, the Wei Tianwang Temple was built at Zhongde Bridge. Zhongde Bridge is also known as Temple Bridge because it is located in front of Wei Tianwang Temple. In 1958, Li Yingjing built Fahua Town Road on the embankment, and after the bridge was demolished, the road name was preserved.

In the 1980s, Zhongde Bridge Road was still quite lively, with various shops such as palm shops, incense shops, tea houses, mixed halls (bathrooms), Nanhuo shops, traditional Chinese medicine shops, sauce gardens, blacksmiths, and hoop bucket shops. Gu Shunsheng Teahouse is located on Zhongde Bridge Road near Yan’an West Road. It was still in operation around 1995 and is well-known far and wide.

3. Located at 1538 Yan’an West Road, adjacent to Zhongde Bridge Road, Shanghai Children’s Publishing House was the first professional children’s publishing house in New China. It was established on December 28, 1952 and has been operating here since then. The name of the publishing house was inscribed by Song Qingling. At the beginning of 2022, Shanghai Children’s Publishing House relocated to Qibao in Minhang District, and the office park on Yan’an West Road opened a new chapter through urban renewal.
